Generic Properties for Semialgebraic Programs

چکیده
In this paper we study genericity for the following parameterized class of nonlinear programs: minimize fu(x) := f(x)− 〈u, x〉 subject to x ∈ S, where f : R → R is a polynomial function and S ⊂ R is a closed semialgebraic set, which is not necessarily compact. Assume that the constraint set S is regular. It is shown that there exists an open and dense semialgebraic set U ⊂ R such that for any ū ∈ U , if the corresponding function fū is bounded from below on S, then for all vectors u ∈ R, sufficiently close to ū, the problem minx∈S fu(x) has the following properties: the objective function fu is coercive on the constraint set S, there is a unique optimal solution, lying on a unique active manifold, and for which the strong second-order sufficient conditions, the quadratic growth condition, and the global sharp minima hold. Further, the active manifold is constant, and the optimal solution and the optimal value function vary analytically under local perturbations of the objective function. As a consequence, for almost all polynomial optimization problems, we can find a natural sequence of computationally feasible semidefinite programs, whose solutions give rise to a sequence of points in R converging to the optimal solution of the original problem.

Metric Properties of Semialgebraic Mappings
We give an effective estimation from above for the local Łojasiewicz exponent for separation of semialgebraic sets and for a semialgebraic mapping on a closed semialgebraic set. We also give an effective estimation from below of the Łojasiewicz exponent in the global separation for semialgebraic sets and estimation of the Łojasiewicz exponent at infinity of a semialgebraic mapping similar to th...
متن کاملGeneric Optimality Conditions for Semialgebraic Convex Programs
We consider linear optimization over a nonempty convex semialgebraic feasible region F . Semidefinite programming is an example. If F is compact, then for almost every linear objective there is a unique optimal solution, lying on a unique “active” manifold, around which F is “partly smooth,” and the second-order sufficient conditions hold. Perturbing the objective results in smooth variation of...
متن کاملPolynomial and regular images of R
We obtain new necessary conditions for an n-dimensional semialgebraic subset of R to be a polynomial image of R. Moreover, we prove that a large family of planar bidimensional semialgebraic sets with piecewise linear boundary are images of polynomial or regular maps, and we estimate in both cases the dimension of their generic fibers.
متن کاملGeneric Minimizing Behavior in Semialgebraic Optimization
We present a theorem of Sard type for semi-algebraic set-valued mappings whose graphs have dimension no larger than that of their range space: the inverse of such a mapping admits a single-valued analytic localization around any pair in the graph, for a generic value parameter. This simple result yields a transparent and unified treatment of generic properties of semi-algebraic optimization pro...
متن کاملConvergence rates of moment-sum-of-squares hierarchies for volume approximation of semialgebraic sets
Moment-sum-of-squares hierarchies of semidefinite programs can be used to approximate the volume of a given compact basic semialgebraic set K. The idea consists of approximating from above the indicator function of K with a sequence of polynomials of increasing degree d, so that the integrals of these polynomials generate a convergence sequence of upper bounds on the volume of K. We show that t...
